"Thomas & Friends -- Steamies vs. Diesels & Other Thomas Adventures" is a DVD containing four short stories revolving around the "Steamies vs. Diesels" theme. This DVD also includes bonus features including songs and games.
This DVD contains four story adventures that take place on the Island of Sodor. Here, Sir Topham Hatt runs a railway with the help of two types of trains, namely steamies and diesels. The steamies (the good guys) consist of Thomas and all of his buddies, each of which has a story of its own. The Diesels, who tend to be larger than the steamies always seem to be starting trouble.
More specifically, in "Thomas To the Rescue" a Diesel was in the middle of telling Thomas just how much better/faster/more important he was, when all of a sudden his new fuel started causing problems. Seeing as this fuel problem left all the diesels helpless, Sir Topham Hatt had to rely on Thomas to complete the days work, which he does with flying colours.
Each story has a valuable lesson for children to learn. In "Henry and the Wishing Tree," children learn to be proud of who they are when Henry finds out that he should stick with hauling cargo instead of passengers. Cargo can be bumped around when moving quickly, but people sure can't!
Both "Squeak Rattle & Roll" and "Percy's New Whistle" (the remaining two stories) teach different yet just as important lessons while continuing to revolve around the theme of Steamies vs. Diesels. Basically this DVD teaches kids wonderful lessons about values through its amusing stories with fun loving characters who are trains (kids love trains!!!). But that is not it, the fun continues with some great interactive bonus features. These features include songs, games and fun facts about each of the trains.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed watching this DVD with my son. Although my son is a little young for Thomas and his friends (he is eight months old) he had a great time watching the trains whiz by, and listening to the songs. I guess this is a hint for what is to come, but as a parent this is one DVD I will be happy to let him watch as he gets older.
