Last Shot

A basketball fan's reading delight.

John Feinstein is a gifted author of books for young adults. I found his writing style to be open and welcoming with strong characters and a lasting story line. From the very first page he draws the reader in, capturing their attention, regulating his writing style to maintain a high level of interest. I found his writing expression simplistic yet exciting and I read each page with avid interest.

Last Shot travels the escapades of Stevie and Susan Carol, both talented young writers, and winners of the coveted US Basketball Writers Association Award.

Both eager young adults, in their early teens, are thrilled to have won the writing contest and travel to the Superdome to cover the biggest weekend in college sports. But letting their enthusiasm get the better of them, they stumble on a riveting story of mystery and danger, and they only have 48 hours to solve the puzzle before the final game.

An excellent story of thrills and peril, perfectly written for young adults. However, John Feinstein does command an excellent knowledge of basketball and he uses a plethora of basketball abbreviations and sports jargon that not all readers will be familiar with.

Still, I managed to make it through enjoying the story of Stevie and Suzan Carol right to the last page.
