Playskool Lullaby GloWorm
by Paul NowakI have fond memories of my old GloWorm - a cuddly stuffed toy with a face that lit up when hugged. Of course, that glow worm was almost as big and hard as a Mag-Lite and had to be really squeezed in the right spot to "glow" - aspects that have been improved on in this new model for the next generation.
The new GloWorm is only eight inches long, and thanks to a smaller light and battery pack and more pillow stuffing in the front, it is softer than the previous model. It also has two stubby arms that are firmly attached to the body - and at just the right place for my 4-month-old daughter to grab them and "hold hands" with her new friend.
Perhaps the greatest improvement is the sensitivity of the switch. This time even my infant daughter can hug the GloWorm and activate it. This may be a bit annoying as it turns on any time you move it, but I believe it is much better that a young child can easily turn it on.
In addition to the GloWorm's face lighting up, the new model also plays music, and both the light and music stay on for approximately 30 seconds after being activated. Towards the end of the song, the GloWorm's face light slowly fades. The music is a bit loud for a "Lullaby" GloWorm as the tag reads, but it is loud enough to capture the attention of a young child. In a stroke of genius, designers also put a switch that allows you to choose if you would like the gloworm to light up and play music, or just light up when squeezed. While there is no "off" position on the switch, you can set it back to demo mode where the music plays louder but for a much shorter time.
The battery/light pack can be easily removed so the GloWorm can be washed. Instructions and machine settings are printed on the tag making it easy to clean and return to your child. It is both machine washable and dryer safe.
