Pop Up Pirate

by Lisa Nothnagel

Pop-up Pirate was a must-have for my daughter, who discovered this suspenseful game at a speech therapy session. This game was chosen to help her pronounce the "shhhhhhh" sound; don't wake the pirate! It has been a great tool. She has fun while she's working on something that's sometimes a little frustrating for her.

Pop-up pirate comes with a Pirate, a barrel in which he sits and a base for everything to fit nicely on. It comes with colorful, pirate-themed stickers, a couple of sharks and an octopus. This game also comes with 24 colorful swords in green, blue, yellow and red. They're rounded at the tips so no one gets hurt from any fencing that might occur, although the swords are small enough that it hasn't crossed my daughter's mind to start poking anyone... yet.

Up to four players can play together, but I have seen my daughter playing happily by herself or with one friend. To begin the game you push the pirate firmly into the barrel. The object of the game is to push the swords one at the time into the slots, but watch out! You never know when the pirate is going to jump up, which it does each time, due to a random "sword slot" that becomes the trigger. Even I was startled!

Don't worry it's a different slot every time, and you'll be kept on your toes.
