Shrek 2: The Second Grade LeapPad Book

by Jennifer Aboudi

All the benefits of Leap-pad with familiar characters.

Sometimes learning to read can be a challenge, so a product like this is a dream. When a young reader has a question (or twenty), they need only tap onto an icon and get help with pronunciation, definition and function.

The Shrek characters are familiar and will probably be a fun companion as the reader tackles new subjects: homophones, compound words, contractions and a variety of reading and grammar basics. For the easily distracted student, this program toggles easily from "fun" to "fact", to keep up with any attention span.

Much appreciated are the defined words, the encouraging narrators and variety of games. And it fits nicely into anyone's lap. (Even while driving. But if you're going to leap pad, please don't drive.)

Tips

If you don't yet have a leap-pad for your new reader, you should. It's best to start the program with your reader, and familiarize the both of you with its functions.

Pros

Great overall product. It's nice to have friendly characters along for the ride.

Cons

Subjects propel quickly, so if your reader attempts to tackle the whole book at once, he or she may get confused.
