Tony Hawk's Underground

by Ian Matheson

What a great game for teenagers (or for that matter, overage ex-skateboarders who like to play video games). This may not however, be the best game for little ones under the age of thirteen.

This is the first installment in the Tony Hawk series to receive a "teen" rating and for good reason! It features a cast full of hooligans and other unsavory characters that you would not want anywhere near your younger ones.

That aside, this game is really fun. The introduction alone will make you want to shut your console off and hit the nearest local skate spot. Then again you could stay in and skate the infamous Brooklyn banks or enter the Slam City Jam in Tony Hawk's Underground.

The game pretty much plays the same as the other Tony Hawk games but for the first time you can get off your board and explore nine levels by vehicle or on foot.

With a new trick editor, face mapping capabilities and a great park editor, this game has unprecedented customization. You can't play against your friends online, which is unfortunate, but at least you can share your tricks and parks over the web.

All in all, an outstanding game... suitable for anyone over 13.
